Jammu: Speaker, Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta kick started work for laying of 1.5 Kilometre long Nallah at Sector-B Sainik Colony in Gandhi Nagar Constituency here today.
The objective of the project, to be executed by UEED with an estimated cost of Rs 2.7 crore, is to provide proper sewerage and drainage system in the area.
The Speaker directed the concerned agencies to take all necessary measures to complete the said project within the set timeline.
Later, the Speaker convened a public meeting with the locals to listen to their problems and demands besides taking stock of development works being executed in the area.
The locals expressed gratitude to the Speaker for taking personal attention in redressing their long pending demands. The people alleged that the area was neglected during last many years in which the locals are facing huge difficulties due to water logging in the lanes and drains of the area especially in rainy season.
The Speaker said that Rs 70 crore have been spent by the Jammu Municipal Corporation on various projects for construction of roads, lanes, drains, parks, gardens, etc besides Rs 50 crore are being expended on construction of Nallahs at Digiana, Nai Basti, Gangyal and other areas in Gandhi Nagar Constituency.
The Speaker said that the government is committed to provide all basic facilities to people of Gandhi Nagar Constituency with focus on better road network, adequate drinking water and power supply, better health and education infrastructure, construction of lanes, drains, Nallahs, bridges, culverts and creation of subways etc.
The Speaker assured the people that all their genuine demands would be fulfilled in a phased manner.
Meanwhile, the Speaker dedicated a 250 KVA transformer to people of Sector-B Sainik Colony area with the aim to further augment the power scenario in the area.
Executive Engineer, UEED, AEE UEED besides other senior officers of concerned departments and prominent citizens were present on the occasion.
