JAMMU: Not only Principals postings, but the Higher Education Department (HED) has also evoked massive controversy coupled with resentment for allegations of gross favoritism in recently issued transfers and postings of non-teaching employees of government degree colleges.

Citing the reshuffling of clerical staff as open document of pick and choose and mockery of transfer policy, an insider while sharing the various transfer orders recently issued by the Director Colleges, pointed out that majority of the staff swapped their colleges within the Jammu city limits. Those without any god father were shunted out in far flung areas, added sources.

Further highlighting the mess in transfer of non-teaching staff, the sources said, “There is a special class of employees who are in the category of ‘touch me not’ and intriguingly they are known to be close to the corridors of powers.

The list of these influential clerical staff include Ankur Kumar, since his employment more than two decades ago is entrenched with Nodal office, Suresh Kumar currently posted in GCW-Parade, Akash Deep Sharma, posted in GCW-Parade, Sandeep Kumar posted in GCW-Parade, Mohd Farooq, GCW-Jindrah since 2014, RK Thakur, GDC-Ukhral since 2017, Rajesh Singh Jamwal posted in GDC-Katra since 2015, Bhushna Devi posted in GDC-Doda since 2010, Satish Kumar posted in GDC-Doda (Despite transferred more than one year ago but still not relieved).

Demanding cancellation of these transfer orders, an employee of GCW, Gandhi Nagar on condition of anonymity said, “The scrutiny of all the recently issued transfer orders pertaining to clerical staff has opened a pandora box which itself speaks volumes about the alleged nepotism prevailing in the Higher Education Department right under the nose of Principal Secretary, Alok Kumar.”

Repeatedly postings of employees within city GDCs for decades together is an unhealthy trend as it encourages wrong practices like examination malpractices, bungling in purchases etc, asserted one employee of GCW, Parade preferring anonymity.

Clarifying on the issue, Director Colleges, maintains that there is no question of favouritism or nepotism in the transfers of ministerial staff of HED. “If some employees are still continuing at a particular place beyond permitted stint, we indeed will look into the matter in right perspective” she further added.
