Reinforcing its crackdown on corruption within law enforcement, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) official in a fresh bribery case in Jammu.
Head Constable Som Dutt, posted as Investigating Officer at Police Station Bishnah, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 for releasing recovered stolen gold ornaments to their rightful owner. Acting on a complaint, the CBI laid a trap and caught red handed the accused, exposing malpractice at the police station level.
Following the development, the SSP Jammu has ordered posting of new SHO and transfer of incumbent SHO to DPL.
The latest arrest sends a strong message on accountability within the police force, with agencies reiterating zero tolerance against corruption.
The arrest is part of a broader anti-corruption drive that has seen multiple actions against police personnel in the Jammu region over the past year. In 2025, several JKP officials, including Sub Inspector Vijay Goswami and Head constable Riyaz Ahmad of Bagh e Bahu police station were booked and arrested by the CBI in separate bribery and misconduct cases, indicating a sustained pattern of vigilance by central agencies.
Worthwhile to mention, last year the J&K UT ACB also arrested sub inspector namely Murtaza Rehman and constable Himanshu Sharma (driver) for demanding monthly bribe of Rs 10,000 from a street vendor to allow him to operate his stall on the entrance of GMC, Hospital Jammu.
