A New Mexico court has ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to pay a total of $942 million after finding the company failed to adequately protect children from harmful content and online exploitation. The ruling includes an additional $567 million penalty, taking the overall liability to nearly $1 billion. The court also directed Meta to strengthen age verification and child safety measures across its platforms. Meta has said it will challenge the verdict.
