India faces fresh tariff pressure from the United States after the US Senate approved legislation empowering President Donald Trump to impose duties of up to 100 per cent on countries buying Russian oil. India, one of the major buyers of Russian crude, has been named among the countries potentially affected. The measure, passed by an 86-11 vote, now moves to the US House of Representatives. If enacted, it could further strain India-US trade ties and hurt Indian exporters.
