There is no end to estrange ‘scientific’ remarks by BJP ministers

Delhi: Two weeks after Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb claimed that the Internet and sophisticated satellite communication system existed in the days of Mahabharata, his counterpart in Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, on Sunday likened mythological character Narada with Google saying the sage knew everything that was happening in the world.

Speaking at an event to felicitate journalists, Rupani said Narada was a ‘true journalist’ who had every information  of the whole world but shared only what was good for the mankind.

“Narada had information of the whole world and can be compared with Google in today’s time. However, he only shared the information which was beneficial, and not harmful, to mankind,” Rupani said.

“That is why he is accepted as Rushi — a person who works for benefit of people. He is often portrayed as snitching on people, but in reality he only shared information for welfare of people,” the Chief Minister said.

The event to felicitate journalists was organised by Vishwa Samvad Kendra — the media wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Rupani exhorted journalists to be like Narada and present only news which is good for the mankind.

A slew of BJP leaders have recently fallen under the net of controversy for their absurd statements.

Two weeks ago, Biplab Deb had claimed that the Internet and sophisticated satellite communication system existed in the days of Mahabharata, drawing criticism from various quarters.

Later, he urged mechanical engineers not to appear for the civil services exams and said that only civil engineers ought to opt for the exam.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah have summoned Deb over his controversial statements.

According to reports, the Chief Minister has been summoned to meet Modi and Shah on May 2 in the national capital.

Biplab has made several controversial statements triggering widespread criticism, even after PM Modi asked party leaders to refrain from making “irresponsible” statements, saying such comments hurt the party’s image.
