NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR into the alleged pellet-gun injury suffered by 19-year-old student protester Sahil Lochab during a July 20 demonstration, hours after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in outside the DCP’s office at Parliament Street.
Gandhi had accompanied Lochab to the police station and demanded registration of a case over the alleged use of pellet guns during the protest. He later sat on dharna after claiming that police had failed to act on the complaint.
Lochab has alleged that he suffered serious pellet injuries during the protest, while the incident had earlier triggered questions over the use of anti-riot weapons. Reports had also cited police records indicating that the Rapid Action Force used anti-riot guns during the July 20 protest.
Following the registration of the FIR, the matter is now set for investigation to establish the circumstances in which the injuries were caused and fix responsibility, if any.
