BENGALURU : Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar has directed election officials to act against anyone found misusing Form 7 to seek deletion of eligible voters from electoral rolls during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
The directive comes amid complaints of bulk and allegedly bogus Form 7 applications. Opposition parties have alleged that BJP workers were involved in attempts to target genuine voters. The CEO has asked Electoral Registration Officers to verify such applications and initiate legal action wherever false claims or declarations are established.
FIRs have already been registered against alleged BJP booth-level agents in Bengaluru over Form 7 applications seeking deletion of thousands of names. In Jayanagar, two alleged BJP agents were booked in connection with applications involving 5,698 voters.
The BJP has denied the allegations and accused the Congress government of targeting its workers. Election officials have stressed that no voter can be deleted solely on the basis of a Form 7 objection without due verification.
