KYIV: At least two people were killed as Russia launched a major missile and drone assault on Kyiv early Wednesday, intensifying hostilities in the Ukraine-Russia war.
The attack came amid warnings from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Moscow was preparing another massive strike against Ukraine. Kyiv has stepped up its own long-range attacks, including a large drone assault on the Moscow region that reportedly involved more than 600 drones.
The latest escalation comes as diplomatic efforts to end the war continue to face major hurdles. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Ukraine’s NATO membership was currently “not on the table”, stressing that Washington’s immediate priority was ending the conflict.
The intensifying attacks on both sides have raised fresh concerns over the war’s trajectory as winter approaches, with critical infrastructure and civilian areas increasingly exposed to long-range strikes.
