KYIV: At least 28 people, including five children, were killed after Russia unleashed a large-scale missile and drone attack across Ukraine, in one of the deadliest assaults in recent months. More than 100 people were injured, while residential buildings and energy and industrial infrastructure were damaged, Ukrainian officials said.
The worst casualties were reported in Pryluky in the Chernihiv region, where a missile destroyed a five-storey apartment building and killed 20 people. Kyiv and several central Ukrainian cities were also hit. Ukraine said its air defences intercepted more than 80 per cent of 46 drones launched in the overnight barrage.
Moscow said the strikes targeted Ukrainian military-industrial facilities. Kyiv, meanwhile, has stepped up attacks on Russian energy assets, signalling a continuing escalation as the war shows little sign of ending.
