JAMMU : A woman went missing after being swept away by a powerful current of rainwater in the Raipur Domana area of Jammu on Sunday morning, as torrential rainfall triggered flooding in several parts of the city.
According to reports, the woman identified as Rukhsana Kousar w/o Kaleem Ahmed was swept downstream by the strong current as water levels rose suddenly. Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel launched a search operation, with local residents also joining the efforts.
The woman remained untraced in the latest reports available on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred amid exceptionally heavy rainfall that inundated roads and residential areas, disrupted traffic and caused damage in several localities across Jammu.
Meanwhile, Jammu recorded 185.6 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, breaking its previous all-time October record of 160 mm set on October 5, 1955.
