New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought responses from the Election Commission of India and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on a petition filed by Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The petition alleges large-scale voter deletions and questions the manner in which the revision exercise was conducted. A Bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant also sought an explanation from one of the petitioners over the conduct during Monday’s march towards the court.
The Bench clarified that issuing notice does not amount to any adverse finding against the poll panel. The matter has brought the electoral-roll revision process under fresh judicial scrutiny.
