Srinagar:  In a fierce gunfight three militants were killed and a CRPF person was injured today in Chatabal area of Srinagar.

Police said that perusing credible leads, police along with CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Chatabal area in the jurisdiction of Police Station Safakadal, Srinagar.

Police added that while the searches were intensified, the hiding militants fired upon the joint search party. “The fire was retaliated, ensuing an encounter. In the encounter 3 militants were killed whose identifications are being ascertained”.

Adding that incriminating materials including heavy arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. “On the basis of the materials recovered from the site, it is found that the militants belonged to outlawed LeT. Further in the said incident no collateral damage has taken place”, police said.

Pertinently, the area was sealed to carry out further searches on cooling of rubbles immediately after the encounter ended to ensure no damage is caused by any explosive material left over at the encounter site.  A case into the incident has been registered and investigations taken up, police said.

However, police said that the youth was killed in an accident. “One person identified as Adil Ahmad Yadoo was brought to SMHS hospital whom doctors declared brought dead. Medical bulletin suggests that the person died due to a crush injury in a road traffic accident at Noorbagh. Citizens may not pay heed to rumours,” a police spokesman said.

Soon after the body of civilian was brought to the SMHS hospital a large number of youth assembled and pelted government forces with stones resulting in injuries to three photojournalists.

The three photojournalists were identified as Farooq Javid, Javid Ahmed Dar and Umar Asif were injured during clashes between youth and government forces near SMHS hospital.

Locals allege that the youth was crushed by the forces vehicle.  Meanwhile, clashes also erupted in Khanyar area of Srinagar against the killing of a civilian boy near the gunfight site in Chattabal area.

However High-speed mobile Internet service was snapped in Srinagar following a gunfight. 4G and 3G services have been suspended in the city to prevent spreading of rumours on the social media, said an official.
