Jammu: Constructed at exorbitant Rs 3.55 crore, the swimming pool in government Maulana Azad Memorial College has gradually transformed into garbage bin.

This engineering marvel perhaps fit to be qualify as ‘eighth wonder of the world’ because of its unique construction design which is devoid of drainage system, stairs, cover shed, changing  and bath rooms which are considered as the prerequisite of a swimming pool.

The genius brains who exhibit extraordinary traits and worked in unison to create this unique creation in the premises of Govt MAM College includes the then bureaucrats of Higher Education Department, officers of sports council and the then Principal of the college.

As per the available documents, the work on this prestigious sports infrastructure was begin in the year 2012 with original cost Rs 204.45 lakh which was revised to Rs 325.75 lakh.

But even after engulfing 255.87, this swimming pool which needs to be completed by the year 2013 fails to see light of the day owing to want of funds.

From no way this structure looks like a swimming pool. Indeed it’s an insult to brand a pond as swimming pool, said a Professor of Chemistry department preferring anonymity.

It’s not a swimming pool but a pool of mess where a scandal is floating with live evidences, added another professor of the MAM College.

This is a live example of open loot of state exchequer by everyone involved in this project, alleged an officer of sports council. Broken surface and lights itself shows the quality of material used in its construction, he added.

The Lieutenant Governor G.C.Murmu should order  enquiry into its controversial construction which even after consuming Rs 255.87 lakh still looks like a garbage pond, said a senior professor of MAM college.
