JAMMU: Located in high security zone and surrounded by government bunglows of senior IAS officers, the Jammu Municipal Corporation store at Gandhi Nagar have become safe den for boozers and gamblers.
The influence of those managing unlawful activities in this store house can be assesed from the fact that though the officials from law enforcement agencies keep rounding this area on daily basis for reporting of dossiers in red and blue diaries to their superiors but strangely prefer to turn Nelson eye towards immoral and anti social activities flourishing uninterruptedly since decades inside a room in JMC store.
In the wake of surprise visit of Commissioner JMC few months ago, the gambling and drinking activities remain suspended for a couple of days in the store but it regain with full vigour after sometimes, told an official of JMC.
The unlawful activities which begins at 11 in the morning continues till 5 pm during which scores of unknown persons including men in uniform keep flocking the JMC store for enjoying whisky and gambling, reveals reliable sources in JMC.
Surprisingly, while this all merrily going on in high security zone which is closely under the supervision of men in civy from security agencies, the SHO of Gandhi Nagar Police station is “unaware” of unlawful activities prevailing with impunity in JMC store.
“The JMC authorities is fully aware of wrong going on uninterruptedly in store room at Gandhi Nagar but maintaining silence over it under pressure from some quarter” said sources.
The role of new incharge store keeper is also under scanner for keeping the door of store complex open for anti-social elements and never apprised the higher ups about it.
“The new incharge storekeeper is equally responsible for the sorry state of affairs prevailing in JMC’s Gandhinagar store” said an employee of JMC.
The incharge storekeeper Mohd Yasin, JE when contacted while expressing ignorance about the indulgence of employees of JMC as well as outsiders in unlawful activities inside a room in store complex said ” We have mooted a proposal for installation of CCTVs at store complex and the matter is pending with the higher authorities”
Pertinent to mention here that sometime back Shiv Kumar who flaunts close association with police officers especially SHOs and knowns as prodigy of a couple of IAS officers who also reside in close proximity to the JMC store in Gandhinagar was divested from the charge of storekeeper but still he can bee seen with his gang in Gandhinagar store from 11 to 5 on working days.
