RAJOURI: Exposing the prevailing indiscipline in policing in border district of Jammu province, the District Magistrate Rajouri, Rajesh Kumar Shavan was not allowed entry inside the police station Rajouri by adamant cops.
Inspector Sameer Jeelani is Station House Officer of Police station Rajouri, who some time back also created a high pitched drama when the Army Jawans fearing risk to life advised former to abstain from venturing on a journey at night to Kashmir alongwith his family through Mughal Road.
This act of highhandedness on part of the erring cops to openly defying the authority of DC in a single line administration have sent shock waves among the citizens. The social media is buzzed with condemnation and criticism of the brazen act of police highhandedness. The netizens raised questioned that if DC is treated this way by cops what would be the destiny of civilians especially aam admi?
This is unacceptable and the LG administration should take exemplary action against those involved in this rare act of open revolt against the civil administration so as to restore shaken confidence of public in the district administration, reads one twitter.
Citing the development as estrange, another twitter handler comments “The development, bringing to the fore the lack of coordination between the civil and police administration, unfolded in the full glare of the media and public.”
Giving details the eye witnesses said that the cavalcade of Deputy Commissioner Rajouri accompanied by ADC and ACR reached at the gate of Police Station Rajouri this evening. But the cavalcade was not allowed to enter inside by the sentry on duty.
“The vehicles of the Deputy Commissioner and other officers remained stationed outside the gate of Police Station Rajouri. The officers kept on waiting but the door was not opened,” said an eye witness. In couple of minutes, the bizzare incident spread like a wild fire in entire Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and almost more than an hour, the Additional SP Rajouri reached the spot. He accompanied the Deputy Commissioner inside the Police Station. The latter, however, left the Police Station immediately after entering inside.
Pertinent to mention here that R.K. Shavan is an officer of impeccable integrity who is known as an efficient, able and honest administrator in the UT administration.
Citing the development as unique and estrange, a police officer wishing anonymity said ” In a single line administration, the District Magistrate is inherited with power to inspect any administrative unit in his jurisdiction in a surprise manner. By openly defying the authority of head of district, the officers and officials of police station Rajouri has brought indelible black spot on rule book of policing in J&K.”
This is a very serious development exhibiting high degree of unprofessionalism which slowly strengthening its roots among men in uniform in J&K, said another police officer on condition of anonymity.
“DC are not allowed to enter police station, the CBI is raiding police units, the cops are acting like gangs of Wasseypur and killing civilians with AK 47 over sharing of booty from drugs sale, mining mafia openly looting grey gold with impunity at night, fake gun licence mafia is prospering with impunity-this shows all is not well at certain level in JKP” he further added.
Meanwhile, the police department is tight lipped on the issue and yet have not released any statement over the circumstances which compel cops to shut door of police station for DC Rajouri with official security cavalcade.
