JAMMU: Outside the Traffic Police Headquarter at CPO Chowk, Panjthirthi, the traffic cops fails to tow and penalized vehicles especially one silver color Innova car who on regular basis remain wrongly parked on footpath which in a civilized society is only meant for pedestrians.
This stark violation of traffic rules is happening just 3 feet ahead of a ‘No Parking’ banner placed by traffic police which brags of Rs. 5000 ‘fine’ warning in red color.
Strangely, the tall sign board of ‘No Parking’ installed by Jammu Smart City Limited in consultation with Traffic Police Department also fails to move the cops who oftenly seen penalized the motorists on road at this spot.
Observing this sorry state of affairs which is prevailing right outside SSP traffic office, Jammu, it seems that rule does not imply when it comes to influential people, said Sanjeev Soni, a resident of Karan Nagar. Even, if this Innova car bearing No JKO2CB 9816 belongs to a police or judicial officer does it means they are above law, asked Soni.
“It’s matter of shame for traffic cops that instead of penalizing and towing the wrongly parked car from footpath of a busy roadside, they mindlessly using it’s windshield as table desk for issuing challans of motorists” quips another resident of Karan Nagar namely Suneet Rana,
If this is happening right outside the office of SSP traffic, City Dr. Koushal Sharma, then citizens could very well understand the reasons behind deteriorating traffic scenario in Jammu city post change of guards in the office of SSP traffic, Jammu (City) few months ago, avers Soni.
It’s easy to shift blame on inadequate parking space for prevailing traffic chaos on roads but this fiasco is an outcome of lack of will and efficiency as well as strategy to handle it, avers Dr. Samriti Gupta.
Referring to the grit and resolve of the then IGP, Traffic, J&K, Basant Kumar, she further said “If, he can handled the vexed traffic problem in Jammu upto the satisfication of public then what’s troubling the current rank n files of traffic department in Jammu now”.
Highlighting, massive prevailing chaos on busy road stretch from Amphalla upto Church adjoining Traffic police Hqr, she said “This shows the efficiency level of those heading the command of traffic police in Jammu city.
Instead of sitting inside cosy rooms, the officers should come on roads and take a step forward and challan owners of these wrongly parked cars”. Merely placing warning boards with Rs 5000 fine don’t serve the purpose” added Dr. Samriti.
The traffic cops claimed, on the basis of anonymity, “All these cars which are parked wrongly on footpath adjoining SSP Traffic office are either of cops or one Additional Advocate General, who have owned a chamer in a nearby vicnity”
Senior Superintendent of police (traffic), City Dr. Koushal Sharma when apprised of this prevailing indiscipline along roadside on a footpath and helplessness of cops to penalise the violators, he listen to the issue and disconnect the call in heightened arrogance.
