JAMMU : Known for tireless bashing of private schools as well as Jammu and Kashmir Fee Fixation Committee (JKFFC) with all sort of stray accusations, Amit Kapoor, self style Chairman of Parents Association has been arrested in an alleged case of extortion and blackmailing.
Enjoying political affiliation with Aam Admi Party (AAP), he was arrested in a trap by police team in civy from Bus Stand area on Wednesday, while allegedly accepting extortion amount of Rs 5 lakh from victim, Avinash Gupta, an employee of Jammu Development Authority.
Confirming Amit Kapoor arrest, a police officer, told JK Global News, “The police has received a complaint from an employee of JDA, alleging demand of Rs 10 lakh extortion by Amit Kapoor as part of blackmailing tactics”.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the police laid a trap at Bus Stand area where victim was instructed by Kapoor to deliver second installment of Rs 5 lakh extortion amount, asserted police officer.
As soon as, Kapoor arrived in a black scorpio car bearing registration number JK02CL 3131, the men in civy nabbed and whisked him to police station, officer said, adding “FIR 31/2024 was registered against Kapoor under relevant sections of law and further investigation is under way”.
Meanwhile, the complainant Avinash Gupta in an interaction with media alleged, “He is working as legal assistant in JDA and Kapoor while threatening to damage his career with an expose in media has demanded Rs 10 lakh amount as ransom.”
Fearing his outreach in news portals and social media, I succumbed to his extortion bid and paid first installment of Rs 5 lakh amount. However, later SSP, Jammu was apprised of the matter and accordingly he was arrested when arrived to collect second installment of Rs 5 lakh extortion amount, asserted Avinash.
Arrested AAP leader, Kapoor while in police custody has denied allegations of extortion and termed it as a “plot” to tarnish his image.
