JAMMU: Determined to curb the sale of lethal Chinese manja ‘Gattu’  which has been banned by the government, the Jammu police in past few days conducted several raids in different localities and bazars and recovered huge quantity of banned synthetic threads (manja) from the possession of accused.

As per press communique, the police post Chowk received input about stocking of banned manja in the market. Consequently, the police team led by SHO Pacca Danga Inspector Raghubir Singh under the supervision of SSPO North, Sharad Kalu conducted raids  at the said place and rounded up a suspect who was selling banned Chinese Manja in the area under the jurisdiction of PS Pacca Danga. During search, 245 bundles of Chinese Manja (Gattu) were recovered from his possession.

The accused identified as Paramdeep Singh S/o Mohinder Singh R/o A/P H.No 280 Old Rehari jammu was arrested and a case under relevant sections of law registered against him.

The police has warned the public to refrain from buying, selling and sticking of banned Chinese manja which notoriously known as Gattu for kite flying purpose. Those found in sale and buying of gattu will be arrested and prosecuted.

The police have further urged the public to use only normal thread for playing kite flying as the banned Chinese manja is not only lethal for human beings especially motorists but also caused extensive damage to electricity infrastructure as well as endangering lives of speechless birds.
