JAMMU: In a significant political development, Dr. Subhash Chander, a University Professor, POJK Displaced People Activist, and a well-regarded figure among the marginalized sections of society in Jammu has joined the National Conference.
At a largely attended program, Prof Subash along with joined the NC in the presence of Rattan Lal Gupta, Provincial President (JKNC), Jammu province who warmly welcomed Prof Subhash Chander into the party, affirming the NC’s commitment to working for the upliftment and betterment of the POJK community.
He emphasized that Dr. Chander’s joining would significantly bolster the party’s efforts to address the issues faced by this marginalized group.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Subhash Chander highlighted the subtle political tactics employed by the current regime, which he believes have reduced his community to a mere vote bank. He strongly advocated for political representation for the POJK displaced community, which numbers approximately 7 lakh in Jammu & Kashmir UT and around 13 lakh across the country. He emphasized that only through adequate representation in legislative bodies can this wounded community find the healing and support it desperately needs.
He also highlighted the strategic importance of the assembly segments R.S Pura South and Suchetgarh, which he represents. These segments alone have approximately 62,000 POJK displaced individuals, constituting a significant voter base.
The joining ceremony was also graced by the presence of Seikh Bashir Ahmed provincial Secretary JKNC Jammu province and several other prominent leaders of the party, further underscoring the importance of this political move.
