Srinagar: Amid tall claims of good governance and development, the public money is being wasted for self-interests by those entrusted with job of developments in the state for the public welfare.
In one such case at Kangan area of Ganderbal district, the Block Development Office (BDO) constructs a toilet at Damping Park Kichpora allegedly without taking into consideration the pre construct survey and necessity for the same.
This is because two toilets are already existed there, one constructed by J&K Police and other by the Tourism department. This is just wastage of public exchequer merely for sake of own pre determined commission, alleged a local resident Mohd Ashraf Lone.
The irony is that the construction of the toilet was latter stopped and dismantled on the direction of concern Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Main Altaf.
Sources disclosed Tehsildar approved the construction of toilet but after completion of 60% of work, it was dismantled, hence wasting public money for self-interests.
Locals of the area alleged that there was no need of another toilet when two already existed there. Tehsildar Kangan Mushtaq Ahmad on being contacted said “ The concern MLA has asked us to stop work”
However, insiders in the department alleged that the MLA expressed his annoyance over the misuse of public funds by the officer who went out on own to construct the toilet in question for the reasons best known to him. How an officer can go on its own and construct anything when there is no such need, the official added.
