JAMMU: In a significant development of far reaching implications, the Anti Corruption Bureau, Jammu today arrested BJP corporator of JMC ward No 53 Jyoti Devi alongwith her husband namely Sham Lal of Trikuta Nagar for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor.
As per reports, the ACB, Jammu has received a written complaint from JMC contractor namely Irfan Ahmad wherein he alleged that one Sham Lal, who’s spouse of councillor of ward No 53 was demanding an amount of Rs 20,000 on behalf of his wife who’s a JMC corporator for issuance of malba certificate post completion of two tile works worth Rs 2.5 lac and Rs. 4.65 lac respectively.
Consequently, the trap was laid and as soon as the Sham Lal accepted bribe of Rs, 10,000 as advance from contractor Irfan Ahmad, the ACB team swung into action and caught him red handed from a office located in Trikuta Nagar and belong to his wife. Later during investigation, the ACB also arrested his wife Jyoti Devi who’s a JMC corporator from ward No 53.
Its pertinent to mentioned here that there are complaints against several corporators of JMC for demanding bribe as commission for various civil and upgradation works under going in their wards.
There are also reports that some Councillor’s have roped in their kith and kins as contractors and got favoured them with JMC,s contracts worth crores. The quality of civil work executed through their kins is reportedly very poor owing to gross corruption.
