Role of Vijaypur Police Station cops has shattered the confidence of public. Cops who are supposed to be protectors of citizens turned connivers. For a few bucks, they shamelessly sold honor of their uniform to devils and turned blind to pangs of a minor girl. The criminals in khaki must be dismissed to send a clear message to offenders and cops that No means No.
JAMMU: The Director General of Police, Union Territory of J&K Dilbagh Singh acting swiftly on the report of CID has placed under suspension 3 cops and attached one DySP for dereliction of duties and connivance in avoiding the registration of an FIR under POSCO Act in an alleged rape of a 11 -year old girl in Vijaypur Police Station jurisdiction.
As per order No 1453 of 2022 dated 21/4/222, taking cognizance for hushing up rape of a minor girl to protect accused Shami @Sandheee S/o Nathwal, the DGP has placed under suspension Station House Officer (SHO) Ali Imran, Assistant Sub-Inspector Rattan Lal and Head Constable Satwinder Singh. Whereas, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Vijaypur, DySP -Vishal Manhas, was removed from his post and attached with Zonal police headquarters for poor supervision and control.
The order further asserted that as per the complaint, a heinous crime was committed with 11-year-old girl by accused Shammi after barging into her house in Bazigar Basti in Vijaypur tehsil in the intervening night of April 16 and 17.
The mother of victim girl approached police station in Vijaypur but the SHO and other officials disrespecting their uniforms as well as SoPs laid down for POSCO Act adopted dilly dallying tactics in registration of an FIR with an aim to exercise undue influence and changed the nature of complaint while forcing the complainant to enter into a compromise with the accused.
Sensing, official misuse of powers by officers/officials posted in PS Vijaypur, the sleuths of CID passed on the dossiers to higher ups. Subsequently, the DGP ordered probe through a special team of crime branch which confirmed the commission of an offense against the minor girl. Following, this, the SHO registered a delayed case in this regard, reads order.
Reliable sources reveal, the deal to coerce the victim’s mother so as to hush up the case was settled for Rs 5 lakh. However, the sleuths of CID got input about it and they alerted the higherups in police.
Following the suspension of erring cops, the DGP ordered a departmental inquiry against them headed by Commandant Rashmi Wazir.
Terming the role of suspended and attached delinquent cops as bad in taste, Prof. SK Bhalla regretted that the order of DGP is not in public domain for reasons incomprehensive.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the enquiry officer Wazir allegedly holds poor investigate skills and to take this sensitive investigation to its logical conclusion a skilled police officer fully conversant with rules of the games should have been appointed as EO to probe into this heinous crime.
“Enquiry is not time bound which raises a needle of suspicion and modus operandi of powers that be” Prof. Bhalla added.
