SRINAGAR: The Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board Dr Darakhshan Andrabi has ordered immediate end to practice of “forceful” donations prevailing in and around shrines across valley.
On a visit to Charar-e-Sharief to inspect the shrine management system, she ordered removal of chairs and takhts erected by people within the shrine and the campus for receiving donations at shrine of Alamdar.
Paying obeisance at the shrine of Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani, she urged the people to help in re-establishing the real befitting environment at these spiritual places.
There are several complaints against practice of “illegal and forced” donations besides encroachment of space by individuals in shrines have become nuisance. The people across the UT have been demanding ban on it.
Now, decision as per the provisions of Central Waqf Act have been taken to end fleecing of pilgrims, said Dr. Andrabi. She appealed to the public for ensuring support to Waqf Board in implementation of reformatory decisions being taken to streamline the derailed Waqf Management System.
“Many hard but necessary decisions are a must for making Waqf an organization as per expectations of the people of J&K.
