PROF. S.K.BHALLA
Enthused by a news item in a national daily @ the release of a book entitled ‘An Unlikely Police Chief’ written by retired IPS officer Mr. BN Vohra, I am to write today’s post. Former Guv J&K Mr. N. N. Vohra and BSF Ex-DG Mr. Prakash Singh were present on the occasion. Mr. Vohra complimented the author and said “The book would trigger a discussion on where we have failed”. Mr. Prakash Singh remarked “For good policing officers need to bond with their men by taking care of them. Only then can they command loyalty and expect good results”.
Now, as per the information available on the net Mr. Koushal Kumar, a resident of district Rajouri reportedly is SSP Traffic, City Jammu. He is responsible for the orderly management of traffic in Jammu along with their team of men in blue.
It can be written on the basis of the repeated rounds in Jammu city and its vicinity that complete chaos prevails and the traffic police is on the spree to slap challans to bolster the depleting revenues of the UT.
Dear Koushal had also been posted in VOJ at one point of time and thereat he performed exceptionally well with no significant contribution as the apparent Activists are aware of the details.
Bus stand, Indira Chowk, Jewel Chowk, Rehari Chungi, CPO Chowk, Shalamar Road, Satwari Chowk, Maheshpura Chowk are a few glaring examples of A-class traffic “management” in Jammu city.
The SSP as per reports is most of the times restricted to his office and perhaps with a spiritual eye remote controlling the traffic in the city of temples. The situation becomes the worst during peak hours viz 10-11 AM and 6-8 PM. There are other congested areas also but it is for the traffic department to identity the same as everything has not to be left to vigilant citizens available in a microscopic minority.
One Journalist as per a grapevine contacted the SSP traffic Jammu city a few days back on his cell and for him it was a shock treatment as the learned SSP was not amenable to any accountability. This is a fact and not fiction for Raj Bhavan.
It is said power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely. ‘The proverb means that whenever a person has power over other people or things, it makes him/her corrupt. It morally destroys their nature and fills them with destructive pride’, says Sir John Dalberg. Let the aforesaid officer read the word of advice by Sir John, but they won’t as Aur Bhi Gum Hain Zamane Mein Mahoobat Ki Siva.
L-G/CS are respectfully requested to get ensured the accountability component of SSP Traffic Jammu to boost the morale of aggrieved commuters so that they can heave a sigh of relief and reach their respective homes well in time as also safe and sound. A strong worded explanation is the need of the hour and the contents of the explanation may be made public as the administration reportedly drum beats the mantra of complete transparency.
