    PROF. SK BHALLA

As per media reports a coterie of sorts is surrounding the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof. Umesh Rai who is cock sure that he cannot be replaced as he enjoys proximity reportedly with the present LG of UT. The VC of Cluster University Jammu has also a connect with LG as per insiders in the administration. A new sort of coterie of VCs in offing.

Private detectives have told us that the coterie surrounding Prof. Rai comprises one Prof. Arvind Jasrotia (Registrar), Neeraj Sharma (Special Secretary), Prof. Prakash Anthal (DSW), Prof. Naresh Padha, Prof. Alka Sharma (CASH Convenor) as also Dr. Rajnikant and etcetera etcetera. As per a news portal “The Vice- Chancellor of JU, Prof. Umesh Rai who as per spouse of deceased teacher allegedly admitted of being kept in dark on the issue”. In case this is the state of affairs then none can come to the rescue of Jammuites, who practically don’t want to be saved. Only a Redeemer can save them but He will  not visit.  Interestingly in the room where the unfortunate death occurred had no CCTV and the SIT shall be undertaking its investigation which is  not time bound the way it likes.

As expected the teachers on campus as usual are tight lipped kyun ki service ka mamla hai. There are reports that JUTA is half heartedly pursuing the case and not in a mood to press hard for removal of those most efficient officers who are in eye of storm for coercing Professor Chandra Shekhar to allegedly hang himself. It is my confirmed opinion that majority of our teachers lack the moral courage with their heads like an ostrich in the sand. ‘Abhayam’ (Fearlessness) of Lord Krishna is missing and shall elude us in the coming days too.

Luckily I had a detailed discussion with a young Prof. of JU who had the courage to call spade a spade. Oldies cannot work wonders. I also talked to Ms. Neeta Chandra, the wife of deceased Prof. Chandra Shekhar. She is in dire straits and deserves justice instead of hollow sympathies. Jammu University has been pasted in darkest colors with this incident. A multi-pronged approach may yield results but the path is full of thorns and insurmountable roadblocks.

For cooling the frayed tempers VC JU today only should get rid of his beloved Registrar, Prof. Alka Sharma and Neeraj Sharma in first spell as none is indispensable in this world. Already much harm has been done and even VC’s Secretariat must operate on Sunday. A public apology from the side of VC is also the need of the hour. Whether Prof. Rai will be in a position to weather the storm is a million dollar question? A bag full of degrees and a practical approach towards matters of life and death are two different areas. On priority Prof. Rai also need to utlise the services of varsity standing counsel for vacating all stays pending in the Court pertaining to sexual harassment cases. Stays are not granted for eternity. Registrar of JU is a teacher of Law and knows it very well.

    Satayameva Jayate!
