Srinagar: Amid criticism, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that there is a need to find a middle ground after five civilians were killed in a clashes with Security forces following encounter.

On Sunday, five Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists including its top commander Saddam Padder and a fresh recruit, an assistant professor from the Kashmir University, were killed in an encounter in militancy-infested Shopian, follwoing that five civilians died during clashes.

“Our soldiers änd children are being killed. Stones are in hands of poor, guns also are in hands of poor (security forces) only. We have to find a middle ground to save them, ” Mehbooba Mufti said addressing media.

On Sunday night, Mufti had said that the loss of 5 innocent civilians in Shopian serves as a grim reminder that violence is no solution to the issues that plague us. We all must unite & pull J&K out of this endless nightmare by engaging in sustained & meaningful dialogue.

However, National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah has slammed Mufti over her “hollow” tweet on the violence in the state, t her brother assaduq Mufti was more honest than her in voicing opinion on the situation.

Your tweet has a hollow ring to it. At least your brother was more honest than you. This blood is the price Kashmiris are paying for you to remain CM & for PDP & BJP to remain ”partners in crime’,” Abdullah said in a tweet.

“One question though, as the state Home Minister & head of the Unified Command you have admitted these boys are ‘innocent civilians’ so who will be charged & hanged for their cold blooded murder? Or should I be asking @HMOIndia this question?,” he asked in another tweet.

Earlier, Muft had also said that the political issues need political intervention. “The three decades’ long violence in the state is a testimony to the fact that guns from either side cannot ensure peace, but a compassion driven reconciliation process based on mutual respect surely can.”
