JAMMU: Efficiency of some officers of forest department can be gauged from the fact that they miserably failed to remove one deadly tree for the last 20 days which leans towards road and awaits a major tragedy for pedestrians and motorists.
Despite being informed personally as well as through watsapp with photo, neither the General Manager of State Forest Corporation Mohd Ayub Khan nor DFO Syed Sadiq considered it appropriate to remove one dead tree which is looming as hanging sword along road on Amphalla Palace Road opposite Nagrtota Park near Karan Nagar.
Initially when the duo officers were apprised with photo about the vulnerability of the hanging dead tree on Jan 11, they first tried to abdicate their mandated responsibility by tossing it towards officials of social forestry Department.
When they were informed that removal of dead tree from public places rests in their domain as per the new notification, then both the concerned GM and DFO of SFC assured to remove it in couple of days.
Tragically, despite lapse of more than 20 days these officials failed to remove the dead tree.
The locals of the area said ” It’s unfortunate to see the dismal working of SFC officers” Knowingly that the dead tree is posing danger for public, the officers of SFC are sipping cup of tea in cosy and well warmed rooms of their office” added Rajiv Kotwal of Karan Nagar. Are they ‘Nawaab’ which do nothing and still gets hefty salary, added Kotwal.
Whatever, if this is the working style of SFC officers, then the Raj Bhawan must initiate an exercise to identify such deadwoods of SFC in Forest Department and get their bag and baggage packed under newly formed retirement policy.
It’s a matter of shame for SFC that they are not capable of removing one dead tree which is nothing less then a tragedy in waiting.
How will they remove a dead tree from roadside when earned mastery only in mercilessly cutting the ‘Green Gold’ and encouraging forest encroachment, alleged one officer of Urban Social Forestry preferring anonymity.
Ironically, when JKGN apprised MD of SFC Vasu Yadav about the dilly dallying tactics of the concerned officials, he said “Approached the Urban Social Forestry”
If this is the sorry state of affairs prevailing in SFC, then its high time Commissioner-Secretary Sarita Chouhan must order refreshment cum orientation course for officials of SFC so as to keep them abreast about their responsibility and ditties.
