India’s varied faiths, languages, regions, castes, food habits and traditions were part of its inherent character and must be accepted and protected-Mohan Bhagwat
NAGPUR : RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday called for preserving India’s diversity while strengthening the emotional bond that holds the country together.
Addressing the RSS’s annual Vijayadashami gathering, Bhagwat said that unity could not mean uniformity, but must rest on respect for differences, Bhagwat also underlined India’s growing relevance in a troubled world.
He said countries grappling with tensions between development and environmental protection, individual freedom and family life, and conflicts arising from competing claims of dominance were increasingly looking towards India for answers.
He said India’s civilisational traditions offered a framework based on coexistence and collective welfare.
Bhagwat urged citizens to rediscover this “self-awareness” and translate it into conduct, saying stronger emotional unity was essential for India to move ahead as a confident nation.
