Bengalaru: Congress has decided to take the issue of government formation in Karnataka to the Supreme Court, if required. This is being seen by some as an effort by Congress to put pressure on Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala.
Congress legislature party on Wednesday endorsed JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy as leader of the alliance. According to reports, JD(S) is confident of keeping its flock together, but the same can’t be said about the Congress. Out of the 78 MLAs, only 73 MLAs turned up for Congress legislature party meeting.
Of the 78 legislators, about 74 were present at the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. The party said the remaining four legislators were in constant with the leadership and on their way to reach Bengaluru. Congress party plans to parade all its 78 legislators to the Raj Bhavan as it has sought the Governor’s appointment in the evening. Congress has so far able to mobilize 70 signatures and expects remaining eight to follow the suit. Besides, the Congress party also expects legislators from JD(S) to join them during a meeting with the Governor.
Siddharamia said JD (S) and Congress will form the government. ”The Governor must give chance to the JD(S) and Congress combine to form the government especially when BJP has 104,” he noted.
Responding to Congress allegation of ‘100 crore each being offered to each MLAs, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar denied the allegations. “This is not BJP tradition and we don’t indulge in such things,” he said.
According to reports, some Congress MLAs are in touch with BJP which is making Congress jittery.
“There will be a bloodbath if efforts are made to divide Congress, ” warned Gulam Nabi Azad.
