JAMMU : Contractor by profession and known for keen interest in RTI activism, Balvinder Singh on Friday raised alarm over quality of various work initiated for face-lifting of city by Jammu Smart City Limited. In a media interaction, Singh along with little known Civil Society members while blaming the officers of JSCL for turning nelson eyes towards sub standard work has demanded a CBI probe to unearth the alleged bungling going on the name of development.
Displaying inter locking tiles used by JSCL for up-gradation of footpaths in Gandhi Nagar area, he asserted that these tiles looses its color within a small span of time which proves that the same were prepared with sub standard material.
To substantiate his allegations, Singh pointed out that similar type of tiles were used in cremation ground Shastri Nagar which appears to be good quality as its color still intact after being exposed to weather vagaries for a long time.
Further gunning against JSCL, Balvinder also criticized the move of constructing footpaths for pedestrians. This appears to be an act of encroachment of roads and thus attributes in the reduction of carriage way and results in hampering free flow of traffic, he said.
He urged upon the authorities to take corrective measures for maintaining quality of works undertaken under JSCL and demanded CBI probe into the entire contract allotment exercise so that responsibility can be fixed against the errant officers for sub-standard works.
