SRINAGAR : The Special Mobile Magistrate (Traffic), Kashmir Province, has directed Tehsildar Sopore Tariq Ahmad Shiekh to appear before the court and explain why legal action should not be initiated over the alleged unauthorised use of a red beacon/warning light and multi-toned siren on his official vehicle.

The direction followed an application filed by Muzaffar Ahmad through counsel, alleging that the vehicle was being used in violation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.

The court has also directed SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir to physically inspect the vehicle and verify whether it carries any red/blue beacon or multi-toned siren and whether their use has valid authorisation. If found unauthorised, the equipment has been ordered to be removed or seized and action taken as per law.

The inspection authority has been asked to submit a compliance report, photographs and details of the action taken within two weeks.

The matter has been listed for September 10, 2026, for the Tehsildar’s appearance and consideration of the inspection report.

The proceedings are at the show-cause stage, and the court has not yet recorded any final finding of violation against the officer.
