Patronizing immoral activities under the guise of eateries is a serious offence. We urge the Divisional Commissioner and the District Magistrate, Jammu, to take cognisance of the matter and ensure exemplary punishment to deter others from bringing disrepute to an area emerging as a hub of higher education-says Ban residents.

A restaurant-cum-homestay operating under the name “Ghup-Shup” was sealed by the authorities on Thursday at village Ban in Tehsil Nagrota.

The establishment was sealed by the Executive Magistrate First Class and Tehsildar, Nagrota, vide order No. Teh-Nag/OQ/2025-26/086-88 dated 22-01-2026.

According to the order, multiple complaints were received from residents of village Ban alleging illegal and immoral activities being carried out on the premises. Acting on these complaints, a surprise inspection was conducted by the Executive Magistrate First Class, Nagrota, along with the Station House Officer (SHO) and the Naib Tehsildar. During the inspection, adult couples were allegedly found engaged in immoral and obscene activities inside the premises at around 2 pm.

The order further revealed that the owner of the restaurant, Rajesh Gupta, had earlier been booked twice under Sections 126/13 and 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, and was warned to desist from such activities. However, his failure to comply compelled the authorities to initiate coercive action.

Examination of the booking register during the inspection indicated that such unlawful activities had been continuing for months, reads the order.

Sharing a copy complaint submitted to Tehsildar Nagrota against the owner of establishment, residents of village Ban told JK Global News “The move of authorities against “Gup-shap” is appreciable. We were feeling suffocated due to the flourishing of immoral activities around our homes under the guise of a restaurant”.

The decisive move against the owner who also happens to be a media person has sent a strong message against the misuse of commercial establishments for illegal purposes, they added.
