    Governor Vohra for Yoga as curriculam in educational institutions

    Srinagar: Several functions were organised in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir to mark the fourth International Yoga Day, with Governor N N Vohra stressing that yoga be taught at all educational institutions.

    The governor attended an event organised by the state Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine and Homeopathy at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex early morning on Thursday, an official spokesman said.

    Emphasising the importance of yoga for physical and mental fitness, Vohra stressed that it should be taught at educational institutions and special arrangements be made to teach it to senior citizens, the spokesman said.

    He said the governor observed that yoga is a scientific method maintaining the health and balance of mind and body and its techniques have now been reoriented to suit modern sociological needs and lifestyles, thereby helping in mitigation of diseases and promotion of health.

    Earlier in the day, Vohra attended a function where over 1000 participants of all age groups participated.

    The Yoga Day was also observed at the lawns of Raj Bhavan, where experts from Yoga Society of Kashmir conducted a 45-minute session.

    Functions were also organised by the Central University of Kashmir, IGNOU’s regional centre, Nehru Yuva Kendra.

    The Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Army also organised functions to mark the occasion.
