    Govt prioritizing agriculture to double farmers’ income: Hanjura

    Jammu: The government is prioritizing agriculture sector so that Prime Minister’s vision of doubling farmers’ income by 2022 can be materialized, stated Minister for Agriculture Production, Gulam Nabi Lone Hanjura while chairing a meeting held to review the functioning of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs).

    Vice Chancellor SKUAST-J, Pardeep Sharma, Secretary APD, Shoukat Ahmad Beigh, Director Extension KS Risam, Director Planing SKUAST-J Deepak Kher besides other senior officers of the concerned departments were present in the meeting.

    The Minister reviewed the progress achieved by Kishtwar, Ramban and Udhampur Krishi Vigyan Kendras. He directed VC SKUAST-J to submit a proposal to Agriculture Production Department for land compensation in Dalwas Ramban. He also said that a site selection committee should visit Marta Ramnagar and Nagseni Kishtwar for assessing the problems in establishment of KVK at the said places.

    The Minister also directed the concerned officers to submit a proposal under RKVY to Mission Director RKVY in a time bound manner and reflect their actual requirements of funds. He directed for establishment of demonstration units of vermin composite in KVKs so that the farmers can be benefitted from the schemes of Agriculture department.

    It was informed in the meeting that an amount of Rs.9.5 crore will be spent for various works of SKUAST-J besides construction of PG Hostel for girls at the estimated cost of Rs.6.81 crore at main campus of SKUAST-J in Chatha.
