JAMMU : Fed up with repeated incidents of alleged harassment and intimidation, the students of Lifelong Learning Department (DLL), Jammu University has raised a banner of revolt against incharge Director Prof Jeevan Jyoti.

In an explosive missive, one dashed to Vice Chancellor and another submitted to Dean Students Welfare (DSW) (the copies of which is in possession of JK Global News), the aggrieved students while levelling allegations of harassment, intimidation and rash behaviour against the incharge Director, DLL has urged upon the authorities for her immediate removal.

“We regret to inform you that we have been subjected to continuous harassment by the I/c Director Prof. Jeevan Jyoti. The harassment is not limited to verbal abuse, threatening language but also includes threats of academic consequences or career reprisals” reads the complaint letter of students of 2nd semester of Masters of Rural Studies.

Furthermore, narrating their saga of woes and pains, the aggrieved students complaint says, “This ongoing harassment has significantly impacted our well-being, academic performance, and overall experience at the university. It has created a hostile and toxic learning environment for the majority of the students of the 2nd semester.” They also complained that Director also assigning excessive field work load having no relevance with the master degree program.

They urged the varsity authorities for proper investigation into the matter for disciplinary action against the flagged officer so that students can pursue their higher studies with dignity in a safe and healthy academic environment in DLL.

Interacting with JKGN, some students confiding anonymity said “What happened on July 24, 2023 in DLL has broken our level of endurance which compelled us to knock the door of VC. Such unbecoming behaviour pattern is not expected from a teacher and if not reprimand at right time may damage the reputation of an institution.

When contacted I/c Director DLL Prof Jeevan Jyoti clarified that there are indeed some grievances of students but now the matter has been “resolved” between us.

Whereas, the Dean Students Welfare (DSW), Prof Prakash Anthal while confirming the receipt of a complaint of students against Director DLL told JK Global News “Allegations are serious and on Tuesday we have kept fact finding interaction with students”.

Our endeavour is to keep intact the sanctity of higher institute of learning where students may able to pursue their studies with dignity and peace without acts of suppression, added Prof Anthal.
