During his probation, Sheikh Adil sparked controversy in Dec, 12, 2016 by insulting the then Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi. At naka in Jhakhani area of Udhampur, he peeled off tinted film of VC’s official car and subjected him to stand on road for an hour citing verification of vehicle documents. Flying high, he even threatened the VC to seize his official car when the later tried to remind the police officer to act responsibly.
SRINAGAR: Police officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) has been arrested and remanded to six days police custody allegedly for destruction of evidences, extortion and corrupt practices.
Arrested DySP has been identified as Sheikh Adil and is currently posted in 17th Bn of IRP. Case FIR No. 149/2023 u/s7, 7A of prevention of corruption Act and section 167,193,201,210,218,221 of IPC) registered against the arrested DySP at Nowgam police station.
To probe alleged involvement of arrested police in corruption and extortion activities, the authorities has constituted a five members Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Gaurav Sikarwar, SP Srinagar (South) .
