New Delhi: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday lashed out at the Congress government for targeting the Centre over mob lynchings, saying that most lynchings in the country took place in 1984 after former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination. The speech occurred in the Lok Sabha where the Opposition is attempting to pass a no-confidence motion against the government.

“Those who talk about mob lynching, they should know that most numbers of mob lynching incidents have happened in 1984.”

The home minister also claimed that no major instances of terrorism had happened in India in the past four years. “No major incident of terrorism has happened in India in the last four years,” he proclaimed.

Hitting out at Congress President Rahul Gandhi over the hug and wink incident, Rajnath said that the Congress President had started a chipko movement inside parliament. Rajanth Singh’s remark came after Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan condemned Rahul Gandhi’s actions. To which, Rajnath said, “After Parliament, Mallikarjun Kharge and I can hug.”

Attacking the Congress and other opposition parties over the no-confidence motion, the union home minister said, “After 15 years, a no-confidence motion has been moved against a government. We never moved a no-confidence motion in ten years when UPA was in power because we understood that the Congress had people’s mandate.”

Hailing the efforts made by PM Modi to strengthen the economy, Rajnath said, “India is the fastest growing economy in the world. It is even acknowledged by international agencies. We have been climbing up in ease of doing business rankings under BJP’s rule,” Singh said.

“Concerns were being raised regarding the economic situation in the country but the truth is that even international agencies have declared India as the fastest growing economy in the world. Opposition parties are unwilling to accept the fact that our Prime Minister has helped glorify our nation at the global platform,” he added.
