RIYADH: Yemen’s Houthi rebels targeted a Saudi Aramco compound in Dhahran with missiles on Tuesday, further widening the conflict between the Iran-backed group and Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities said a missile hit an administrative building at the Aramco facility, triggering a limited fire. The blaze was brought under control and no casualties were reported. The strike caused damage to the upper floors of the building, according to Saudi officials.
The attack came hours after Saudi-led coalition forces carried out strikes against Houthi-linked oil facilities in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. The Houthis had warned that Saudi energy infrastructure would be targeted if the strikes continued.
Saudi air defences also intercepted missiles and drones aimed at other parts of the kingdom. Debris from intercepted missiles reportedly damaged homes in Riyadh and injured civilians.
The latest escalation has renewed concerns over the security of Saudi Arabia’s vital energy infrastructure and the wider impact on regional oil supplies.
