JAMMU: Known as all weather coterie boy and earned mastery in prevailing upon every Vice-Chancellor, the PRO of Jammu University, Vinay Thusoo is in eyes of storm over his appointment as coordinator in the newly established department of Mass Communication and Journalism.
Branding Thusoo appointment as an act of favouritism, the agitated teachers of JU says “The post of coordinator belongs to academic domain and appointment of a non teaching employee on it shows that administrative rot has reached a deplorable level in JU during 3 years tenure of ex VC Prof.Manoj Dhar”.
Most of the agitated teachers demanded that new VC Prof. Umesh Rai must begin purification of Jammu University administration from newly launched Dept of Journalism and Mass Communication, to give loud and clear message that there will be no room for any wrong doings under his tenure.
The meteoric rise of Vinay Thusoo from merely a receptionist in University Guest House in 2001 to grade of Deputy Registrar shows anything is possible for those who enjoys close proximity with VC, rues the agitated teachers in JU.
Reliable sources in varsity administration reveal prior to demitting VC office, Prof. Manoj Dhar through his coterie had allegedly mooted a proposal to adjust non teaching employee Vinay Thusoo as Incharge Head of Dept of Mass Communication, FM Community Radio and Oral History.
Stating that appointment of Vinay Thusoo as coordinator in Dept of Mass Communication is blatant violation of rules and regulations, the President of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) avers that lobby and coterie system has done irreparable loss to the Jammu University.
In fact, the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism was started only to adjust over ambitious Vinay Thusoo in teaching stream through backdoor, alleged an officer of JU.
Worth to mention here that Vinay Thusoo career got wings during tenure of former VC Prof. Amitab Mattoo. Thereafter, except Prof. Ishar Singh tenure he remained associated with coterie of every VC who served in the JU.
When contacted PRO of Jammu University, Dr. Vinay Thusoo clarified that he was appointed by varsity authorities as Administrative Coordinator for smooth functioning of newly launched Dept of Mass Communication and Journalism and expressed ignorance about any proposal to adjust him as incharge HoD.
The million dollar question stills remains that when HoD is there to look after the department what is the exigency to appoint Vinay Thusoo as coordinator in the newly launched department. Is he indispensable in the system, questioned a varsity officer, confiding anonymity.
