Scripting a history in domestic cricket, Jammu & Kashmir on Saturday clinched their first-ever Ranji Trophy title after securing a vital first-innings lead against Karnataka cricket team in the final, which concluded in a draw.

Playing their debut final, J&K rose to the occasion with a dominant all-round display, outplaying the seasoned Karnataka. A towering first-innings total of 584 runs laid the foundation of victory, as their bowlers backed it up by restricting Karnataka to 293, giving J&K a decisive edge.

The batting effort was headlined by superb centuries from Qamran Iqbal (160)* and *Sahil Lotra (101)**, whose unbeaten 197 score stand turned the match firmly in J&K’s favour. Their partnership not only steadied the innings but also ensured Karnataka remained under pressure throughout.

Earlier, J&K’s disciplined bowling unit denied Karnataka any chance to build momentum, striking at regular intervals and maintaining tight control.

With the match heading towards a draw on the final day, skipper Paras Dogra declared the second innings at 342/4, shortly after 2:10 PM, paving the way for a formal finish. The draw confirmed J&K as champions on the basis of their first-innings lead.

The landmark triumph sparked celebrations across the Union Territory, marking a defining moment in its cricketing journey. The role of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association management also came into focus for backing and nurturing local talent.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah congratulated the team, hailing the victory as a proud and historic achievement that has put J&K firmly on India’s cricketing map.
