JAMMU: Unbelievable but true, a Chauffeur in Jammu Municipal Corporation is so “powerful” that even an upright and honest Commissioner Avny Lavasa prefers to ignore his alleged large scale irregularities in deployment of Safai Karamcharis (SKCs) with garbage lifter vehicles.
Interestingly, this indomitable official known by name of Raj Kumar alias Raju is a Chauffeur in JMC by virtue of which he supposed to be perform his official duty as driver in the corporation.
However, since 2017 he has been awarded with charge of supervisor in Transport wing where he acts like a King owing to his close proximity with higher ups in JMC.
There are large scale complaints against Raj Kumar pertaining to fraud in maintaining attendance of nearly 22 permanent SKCs deputed in the transport wing, reveals sources of JMC transport wing.
These 22 SKCs never turned up for duties but were marked as present in the daily attendance register, added sources.
This entire fraud is flourishing as part of quid pro exercise for the last three years wherein all these SKCs allegedly used to pay Rs 6000 /per SKCs on monthly basis to the supervisor/chauffer for proxy attendance, sources added.
Through this fraudlent exercise, the supervisor earned nearly Rs 1,40,000/month, revealed reliable sources.
Sharing details of these SKCs, an official preferring anonymity said ” From Chief Transport Officer to concerned TO and from Commissioner to Jt Commissioner (A) everyone is aware of this fraud”
Pertinently, the JMC authorities few months ago has developed a software for facial attendance of entire SKCs working on the permanent basis as well engaged through NGOs so as to end menace of proxy attendance.
But surprisingly, the authorities for the reasons best known to them choose to exempt these 22 SKCs attached with Transport wing from this mandatory App attendance, official sources further revealed.
Repeated attempts to contact CTO Harvinder Singh for seeking his response on this corrupt practice could not be materialized.
However, responding to our watsapp message about these serious allegations, Mr Singh said “Ok”.
