Several Kg unsafe meat destroyed and scores of shopkeepers were penalised for not adhering to FSSAI guidelines
JAMMU: In an endeavour to ensure healthy meat and poultry products processed under hygienic conditions reached consumers, the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation on Monday conduct surprise drive in different localities and bazars of Jammu.
On the directions of Commissioner, JMC, Rahul Yadav, the team of led by Municipal Veterinary Officer (MVO), Dr. Sushil Kumar Sharma conduct extensive checking of shops engaged in sale of wholesome meat and chicken in Narwal, Gangyal, Satwari, Talab Tillo, Bohri, Muthi, Bantalab, Paloura, Janipur, Amphalla and CPO Chowk.
During the drive several meat, chicken and fish traders shops were inspected and about 20 Kg of substandard meat was seized and later on disposed of properly alongwith a fine to the tune of Rs. 22,000/- was also imposed on the meat sellers for selling unstamped & substandard meat.
On the ocassion, the MVO also sensitize meat selling shopkeepers to maintain hygiene environment in and around their shops and strictly adhere to the various provisions of Food Safety Act, 2006 as well as necessary directions and guidelines issued by the JMC frequently so that good quality of meat should reach to the consumers.
The meat selling shopkeepers also instructed to install black glasses in their shops and restrained open display of mutton/chicken.
They were also advised to keep separate bins for the collection of daily waste generated on account of refused/ inedible meat & chicken parts for proper disposal through JMC vehicles.
