JAMMU: The Enforcement Wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is facing questions over alleged eye wash demolition and selective action against unauthorised commercial constructions.
Sainik Colony residents told JK Global News that the demolition of a two-storeyed unlawful concrete commercial structure in Sector D and an iron-fabricated structure in Sector G by JMC deserves appreciation.
However, they questioned why similar zeal was missing while proceeding against a large industrial-purpose prefabricated shed allegedly raised on a residential plot in Sector 1.
Further, they also pointed to a blue-coloured iron structure in Sector G, reportedly constructed along the roadside for commercial purposes several months ago but still continues to enjoy impunity.
Further expressing concern over commercialization of residential buildings in blatant violation of Building Bye laws in Sainik Colony and alleged pick and choose in action against violators, residents says, “Is there one law under the UBBL for ordinary residents and another for the influential?”
If sources in JMC are to believed action against an unauthorised construction, from issuance of notice to sealing or demolition, is required to be completed within 21 days.
“If an ATR is closed after an eye-wash demolition or action delay until the construction is completed and violators manage status quo from Court, there is more than meets the eye,” said an officer of JMC preferring anonymity. This raises a very serious question mark on the working of enforcement wing, he added.
JMC insiders alleged that an employee, earlier removed from the Enforcement Wing over patronizing illegal constructions at Channi Himmat, is now lobbying for a soft approach towards one gigantic illegal prefabricated structure in Sainik Colony.
Worth to mentioned here that Enforcement Wing had earlier faced massive criticism in public domain over alleged eye-wash demolition exercise of an illegally constructed double-decker iron structure over one ‘Qureashi Kabab’ outlet at Gandhi Nagar.
The Joint Commissioner (Enforcement), JMC could not be contacted for his comments despite repeated calls. JK Global News will update the report once his response is received. However Enforcement Officer (Incharge) Ram Khajuria when contacted on the issue failed to have any satisfactory clarification.
