JAMMU: Known for murky affairs in the past, the Veterinary wing of Jammu Municipal Corporation is all set to contribute as significant player in accomplishing goal of ‘Smart City’ under Prime Minister ambitious ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyaan’.
In this regard several initiatives under the guidance of Commissioner Avny Lavasa have been undertaken which not only create hygiene environment but also helps in welfare of animals besides significantly generating revenue for the Urban Local body.
Launched only a couple of months ago, the initiative of pets registeration has received an overwhelming response from the citizens.
So far, nearly 600 pets were registered with 500 fees, said sources.
This will help in timely vaccination and proper burial of pets in case of death besides providing us preparing road map for effective tackling street dogs menace as per the guidelines of Animal Welfare Board, added sources.
Another important project with commercial value is under way wherein streamlining the operation of Dairies operating within JMC as per NGT guidelines, the JMC also called upon the owners for voluntarily registeration and licencing which will followed by physical inspection and RFID tagging of the cattles.
Insiders reveals that the strategy is to end unhealthy practice of disposal of cow dung in residential areas and utilise it for vermicompost production having commercial value besides effectively ending once for all the uncontrolled menace of start cattles endangering lives of people on roads in the city.
The authority is planning for setting up of a mega vermicompost project at Bandhu Rakh.
“If everything goes well along with vermicompost project, shelter on vast JMC’s land has been planned to kept stray cattles which will be later disposed off in auction” revealed sources.
It’s worth to mentioned here that due to insufficient space at existing Dogra Hall located cattle yard, the JMC miserably failed in controlling the menace of stray cattles in the city.
Drive have also been launched to educate the meat and chicken sellers to restrained from slaughtering inside shops and proper disposal of poultry waste.
“In the initial stated we sensitising the meat/ chicken sellers to get licence and operate as per norms and later, the defaulters will be penalised”
Ironically, though these tasks were mentioned in the JMC act but none of the officers in the past care to deliver on it.
Except delivering flowery Takreeer and devising ways and means to swindle state exchequer these blacksheeps contributed nothing good while remained stick to chair of MVO in past, said JMC insider.
If any honest officer get posted as MVO, the crooks in JMC join hands for speedy ousting, added reliable sources.
Confirming initiating several initiatives as part of mission to clean Jammu city, Municipal Veterinary Officer, Dr Sushil Sharma said “With the advise and support of Commissioner, JMC have launched multiple projects which indeed helps in eradicating several problems being faced by the people in the city”.
