Kolkata: Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced a lawless mob in Halisahar, North 24 Parganas, on Sunday when violent protesters  allegedly intercepted her convoy and hurled stones, slippers and other objects at her vehicle.

Banerjee was visiting the family of a deceased TMC worker when the confrontation erupted.

The incident has triggered a fresh political storm, with the attack drawing sharp condemnation and renewed questions over law and order in the state.

BJP leaders distanced the party from the violence, while TMC leaders accused political opponents of orchestrating the attack. The confrontation comes amid heightened political tensions in Bengal, adding another flashpoint to an increasingly bitter political atmosphere.
