JAMMU: Surfacing of recruitment scandal worth crores compelling the Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to quash list of written examination for selection of 1200 Sub Inspectors in Jammu Kashmir Police has exposed the murky affairs of selection process prevailing in the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board.
If insiders are to be believed, the way kingpin of scandal has conveniently gained access to question paper prior to conduct of examination evidently shows that secrecy of examination process has been compromised and it also raised a huge question mark on credibility of earlier selections made by the board after adopting new pattern of recruitments to various non gazetted posts drawn only on the basis of written test.
The master mind of the Sub –Inspector written examination scandal –who is a retired commandant from para-military force and runs a shady “Study Library” enjoys strong clout in the JKSSRB, alleged reliable sources. “For assuring job in lieu of money he was popularly known as Mr. flawless among his clientele, added sources.
The name of a police constable who was posted as PSO of a prominent leader in Jammu and recently opted for voluntarily retirement from service is doing the rounds for his active role in sale of question paper to the potential aspirants at the behest of kingpin.
The citizens as well as enraged job aspirants are in quandary over the expose and questioned the credibility of recruitment body which is entrusted with responsibility of selecting thousands of candidates in a free and fair manner for government jobs in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Our trust is shattered and now we want probe into all other written examinations which were conducted by the JKSSB in the recent past, avers Rajinder Gupta. The mastermind behind this scam is known for assuring success to job aspirants after hefty exchange of money, said Susheel Kumar another aspirant of SI recruitment.
It’s also a matter of investigation that how a notorious scamester who is widely known in society for securing selection of applicants applying for jobs in JKSSB has escaped the dragnet of police and CID who always roam around and prepare dossiers on daily basis.
The written test of Sub Inspector was held on 27/03/2022 and the score list was finalized on 19/04/2022 by the SSRB with the approval of the then Chairman, Khalid Jehangir vide order No SSB/COE/OMR/2022 /3942-49.However, the result was officially declared on June 4th, 2022 almost one month after the transfer of the then Chairman as well as Controller of Examination.
The entire administrative setup of JKSSRB including the then Chairman, Khalid Jehangir, the then Controller of Examination, Ashok Kumar and incumbent Secretary, Sachin Jamwal under whose supervision everything from hiring of recruitment agency for conduct of examination and finalization of merit list of written test was executed should be sacked for their failure to maintain secrecy/ sanctity of examination, opined noted anti corruption crusader Prof. S.K.Bhalla. None, except these officers are answerable for breach of secrecy in leakage of SI recruitment question paper, he added vehemently.
This is not a minor glitch but a huge scandal wherein the question paper for written test of SI’s recruitment were openly on sale for Rs 10 to 15 lakhs and it speaks volumes about the secrecy quotient of examination maintained by the recruitment body, said Prof. Bhalla for whom JKSSB has been reduced to a school for scandals.
Repeated attempt to contact the then Chairman for seeking his reaction didn’t materialise. Whereas, incumbent Chairman, Rajesh Sharma was evasive in his replies to our queries as to why the approved written test list was published one month later after departure of his predecessor.
JK Global News Take: Massive expose of SIs recruitment scandal has not only sent shock waves among the aspirants but also the credibility of Govt machinery is under cloud. Tall claims of the Govt to cleanse the corrupt practices by introducing transparent procedure of recruitments to non gazetted posts has no taker now. The LG, Mr. Manoj Sinha should sack those responsible for the mess to restore public confidence that has taken a beating.
