JAMMU: With a resolve to eliminate the ever growing menace of narco terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday busted a module which was operating drug racket at Kupwara in connivance with Pakistani handlers sitting across the border.

The team of Kupwara police arrested 17 drug smugglers including 5 police personnel of Jammu Kashmir Police, a political activist, a contractor and a  shopkeeper and also recovered 2Kg heroin worth several crores.

Briefing media, SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas said “On the basis of inputs we kept certain identified persons under close surveillance for their active involvement in supply of narcotics in Kupwara and adjoining area”.

Subsequently, the surveillance led to the arrest and recovery of narcotics from the possession of one Mohd Waseem Najar-a poultry shop owner who is a resident of Darzipura Kupwara.

During, intensive questioning, Waseem spills the beans about a vast drug network running operating in Baramulla as well as Kupwara districts in association with Pakistan based supplier, avers Manhas, adding this module amply shows the direct involvement of Pak based terrorists who are pumping narcotics into J&K UT to spread tentacles of narco terrorism.
