AWANTIPORA: Police Commemoration Day was observed at District Police Lines (DPL) Awantipora on Tuesday to honour police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
SSP Awantipora Irshad H. Rather-JKPS, along with senior police and CRPF officers, civil administration officials, retired police personnel, members of civil society and families of martyrs, paid tributes to the fallen heroes.
A two-minute silence was observed in their memory, while a J&K Police contingent performed Shok Shastra to the solemn beats of the Pipe Band.
SSP Rather read out the names of police martyrs from across the country, following which officers, personnel, guests and members of martyrs’ families laid wreaths and showered flower petals at the Martyrs’ Memorial.
The SSP also distributed gifts among the next of kin of police martyrs and interacted with the bereaved families. He heard their grievances and assured them that issues concerning J&K Police families would be taken up with the concerned authorities for priority redressal.
The ceremony reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to remembering its martyrs and supporting their families.
