By Arfat Khan
Jammu: Controversies seemingly have developed special predilections for BJP leaders in CM Mehbooba led PDP-BJP coalition government in the state.
This time just elevated DyCM Kavinder Gupta and another Cabinet Minister and MLA from Kathua, Rajiv Jasrotia were in news related to sensitive case of Raisana
Newly elected Dy CM Kavinder Gupta today after taking oath straightway rammed into a new controversy with his remarks on Kathua gang rape cum murder case. In an interaction with media persons, Gupta termed the Raisana case as a minor incident which needs not be given much hype. With his remarks, the newly elected Dy CM who happens to be a senior leader of BJP in state and represents Gandhi Nagar constituency instantly shot into fame across the country.
Gupta prior to his elevation as new Dy CM in BJP-PDP coalition government after replacing Dr Nirmal Singh was Speaker of state Legislative Assembly.
The Raisana, case which sparked nationwide outrage over gang rape cum murder of a minor eight year old nomadic girl in Hiranagar Tehsil of Kathua district has led to the amendment in POSCO act with inclusion of death penalty to accused for raping the girl below 12 years.
The ensuing controversy over the murder cum rape led to polarization in Jammu region besides resignation of two senior BJP stalwart cabinet ministers Choudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga for attending Hindu Ekta Manch rally which was spearheading agitation for release of locals who has been named as accused in this gruesome incident and enquiry by CBI instead of state police.
Even as this was not enough, former state Chief Minister Omar Abdulla stirring a new debate has questioned the sagacity of Mehbooba led PDP-BJP government over elevating MLA who was also present in pro accused rally which took casualty of two BJP cabinet ministers.
Omar said that chief minister Mehbooba Mufti seemed confused on the stand on Kathua incident as one of the participants in ‘pro-rapists’ rally is now a minister in her cabinet.
Taking social networking site twitter Omar wrote “2 BJP ministers removed in J&K for attending a pro-rapist rally & a MLA who is reported to have attended the same rally is promoted as a minister. Why are the BJP/ @MehboobaMufti confused about where they stand on the #Kathua rape?.”
It would not be out of place to mention here that few days ago irked over the remarks of a Union Minister Santosh Gangwar on Unao and Kathua case, PM Narendra Modi has sensitize its party leaders especially ministers across India to act responsibly while reacting to queries on sensitive issue.
Now here, it would be interesting to see which way the winds blow in the aftermath of controversy surrounding newly elevated BJP ministers in the state cabinet where the brutal death of a minor eight year girl is seen as a hot pot for every veteran politicians, young Turks as well as rangroot professionals.
